How to prepare for group II exam
Please read this piece of advice before committing yourself for Groups preparation
As with every competitive exam the first thing one need to look at is the Selection process and exam Syllabus.Next thing you need to do is gather material.
Selection Process
This is a single stage process consisting of only objective examination and no interview. Executive positions & Non executive positions are filled only with objective marks merit list and there is no waiting list.
what we don’t need

If you come across any coaching institute material make sure why you are buying that material. Are you able to find something in those book which is not easy to get information on (or) You are buying it simply because it is a great coaching institute or you have seen everyone carrying it around or your friend recommended it. If you follow the second way you will end up buying every institute material and reading nothing but spending your money on useless bunch of books. So before buying any material first go through the syllabus and make sure you got all info from the above said books, incase you don’t get then think of buying material with that “specific topic”. By focusing on the above 6 to 8 books and the latest current affairs mostly you don’t need any other material. All we need is 120 in every paper and another 20 in interview( total 380) to get a group 2 service.
I thank for all your inputs on GROUP II. Kindly suggest when would the exams be conducted in 2011.
Hi murthy,
The Group 2 exam date is yet to be announced, but usually it will be after Group I mains exam(expected to be in may 2011).Please keep an eye on the date at apspc.gov.in.
Hope this helps
it is very useful.
dilip sir, first of all very very thanks for such a valuable information about groups it is very useful to many people like me sir, kindly suggest me about group II material of paper II material and exact location of above reference books in hyderabad so that i can purchase all books in one place
thanks
Hi sudheer,
You can get these books at Ashoknagar/Himayatnagar bookshops located around IAS study circles. You can find all these books and paper II material in Ashoknagar (near Indira park) bookshops around R C reddy Study circle also. You can also find photostat copies of various institute materials here, but chose them carefully.
Hope this helps.
Thank u soo much sir..
hi sir..howmany marks should i get in written test for gr2 service. im an bc-d candidate..plz tell me the score should i get in written test…
Hi,
Group 2 is a competitive exam, no one will be sure how many marks they should get to get a service irrespective of the reservation category they are in.As a general rule getting above 350 marks (excluding interview) will have a 90% probability of getting service.
Dilip
Hi dilip sir ,
you have suggested good books for group II,
can you suggest where these all text books are available in hyderabad in one location.
telugu academy text books are also available in ashoknagar (NEAR BY IAS STUDY CIRCLE’S ).
Adhunika andhra pradesh charithra (ఆధునిక ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ చరిత్ర TM) — P Raghunadha rao ( is it telugu academy book.)
Bharata ardhika vyavastha- samasyalu (భారత ఆర్ధిక వ్యవస్త – సమస్యలు ) –Telugu academy competitive exam book
Andhra pradesh ardhika vyavastha- Abivriddhi( ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ ఆర్ధిక వ్యవస్త- అభివ్రిద్ధి) –Telugu academy competitive exam book.
Hi ramesh,
you can get all the above books near any IAS study circles in hyderabad,if u want a specific one go to shops around RC Reddy Study circle in Ashoknagar.By the way Raghunadha rao book is not Telugu academy one,it is published by Sterling publishers available both in Telugu and English medium. In those book shops you can find NCERT books as well.
any thoughts on appsc sticking to the exam dates given for Group 2? Will the political uncertainty force the appsc to postpone the exams? I know there is no definite answer for this, but still it impacts my preparation for the exam as I need to balance it with my office work.
any thoughts?
Hi Ram,
There is no political uncertainty for Group 2 !!..These are all zonal posts and no politician/political party will be interested in them. There is no scope for postponing of exams even with the announcement of separate state or not.Only a request from applicants can postpone the exam which seems to be unlikely!.
Thats good to hear from you..Thanks Dilip…all d best for ur preparation..
Sir,
Can you Please tell me where I can get Practice papers for Appsc Group2…In which website?
Hi,
I don’t know anyone offering such service, but you can see the practice tests at sakshieducation.com website as and when the exam approaches, and on a paper format you can see them from Vijetha competitions/udyoga sopanam fortnightly magazines (Telugu medium only.2008 Group II exam paper is listed on APPSC website itself.
hi sir i am charan i am going to abroad …i am interested to write groups after 2yrs…how should i prepare…any tips
Hi,
The only tip you need to remember is watch out for the future notifications(Group-I/II) from APPSC website and make sure you apply for it.If they announced exam dates, then prepare according to the schedule.
sir i am studying final b.com. My aim is to become a group 2 officer. The above said information is very useful to me and it is very superb. please give more basic tips about for starting preparation of group 2. I i will complete my b.com by the end of April 2012. Please tell me is there any appsc notifications in the year 2012. with my qualification
Hi manoj,
At the moment there is no new notification for group II, but you can expect after the current one is finished.keep checking the website http://www.apspsc.gov.in for new notification. There is no schedule from the govt for conducting group II exams as they are announced as when vacancies arise. Please go through the current(2008) notification to see the exam format and what is expected from you in group II exam.
GOOD MORNING SIR,
As my frnd applied group2 on Nov 2009 , as on 31 Aug suggest that rejection of his application form . plz request you help him whether he is rejected are subimted are not . because his dreams will be shaterred
Hi smitha,
The G-II applications which are “proposed for rejection” are declared on the APPSC website for receiving objections from 29april to 18 may 2011.Now the date had passed off already and if your friend hadn’t checked this, then no one can help him.The commission can’t offer anything in this aspect. If the application is accepted you will get the message “your application is received”.
Hi,
Could you please advise good telugu referal’s books for Group 2 including all the papers.
Thanks & Regards
SSP
Hi tilak,
Telugu books are mentioned in the topic ” How to prepare for Group II exam”.Rather than reading reference books at this stage focus on standard textbooks and solve the model questions appearing in sakshi ,vivek and vijetha publications with focus on current affairs.
Thanks for the valuable inputs shared with us…
any guess on further notification of group 2, when will be the expected date for that..? Please let us know… kindly update on this.
Hi raju,
There is no schedule for further Group -II notification, but a new notification might be expected in Dec 2011 or around jan 2012 as reported in the media.Do visit appsc website for updates at least once for 20 days.
Hi,sir can u tell me the complete details of changing pattern of coming group II notification
Hi sai,
Complete details of new pattern is not available, once APPSC got the clearance of Government to the new G-II pattern we will be able to see them, until then whatever the details we have got is only from media.
thank u sir
HI Sir, Is Coaching is necessary for the group 2,If it is necessary can u give me
some of the gud coachin centres names in hyderabad.Am thinking about RC Reddy Is good
in hyderabad.please give me the advice…..
Hi sai,
Is coaching necessary for Group 2 ? Go through the syllabus find which part of syllabus you are not aware/ can’t handle. Then go to book shops surrounding R.c reddy study circle and buy photostat copied material for that subject of R C Reddy. Go through the material and if you still believe you can’t handle on your own/ with your friends, then think about attending coaching with a clear idea about what you are expecting from coaching. Coaching costs money and time, if you believe you have the resources and comfortable with the institute go ahead.
thank u sir………….
Hi Sir,am a OC candidate how many marks i’ve to score in prelims to get qualify to the mains for group 2.Out of 200.sir as per ur experience tell me the advice to face general studies….
tell me the tips to score high in GS.
Thanks&Regards:Ssai
Hi sai,
Group -2 is a competitive exam and there is no such thing to get qualified. Being an OC there is a greater chance to clear prelims if you score around 75% to 80%. please go through the blog about facing general studies.
how many months gap in between notification and prelims?
Hi satish,
There is a minimum of 3 months from the date of notification and prelims ,but usually it is a bit more than that.
Hi sir,
Am basically english medium,so i know telugu language but i cant understand the telugu words like general science in telugu etc…..Now am going to T/M coaching sir am facing some language problem in coaching centre. So am in dilema that how should i prepare 4 the exams

Hi sai,
If your E/M student then why are you going for T/M coaching?.Question paper will be in both E/M and T/M. Getting coaching in E/M might be difficult, so buy photostat copies of material from bookshops and go through it. I mentioned all the E/M books that are required for each subject in the topic https://dilipvaka.wordpress.com/2011/09/09/how-to-prepare-for-group-ii%C2%A0exam/ . Please go through the topic carefully for all the E/M books for all subjects. You can prepare all the subjects in E/M only.
thank u sir…..
Going to coaching is to know the suggestions what they give…..by reading the material of
the coaching centre is enough or else i should read watever u’ve given…
Hi sai,
Going for coaching or not depends on your choice and your financial resources and time.I provide the books here for those interested in self preparation.Much of the material available in the market may contain all or even more coverage of topics.

Disaster management of Asst statistical officer
Hi sai,
For computer science use BSc computer science books 2nd/3rd year, for disaster management refer class 8,9,10 cbse
books http://cbse.nic.in/nbooks.htm
hi dilip
i have applid for group 1 recently. after how many days will i get the message from appsc mentioning “application received”.i have mentioned STD number in the application form will it cause any problem.plz let me know….
thanks in advance
Hi Nayeem,
You don’t get any message from APPSC, but some time after the deadline of applications, APPSC puts up a list of applications that are aubjected to rejection, mostly for reasons of non payment of fees or those who don’t have qualifications. You simply need to check at that time to see your application status.
Hi Dilip,
Thanks for u r valuable information. Please let me know where can i find the practice test papers, model and previous test papers of G-II. And also please let me know whether the books of E.M ” VIJETHA COMPETITION” GENERAL STUDIES FOR GRP-1 AND GRP-2″ and SOCIAL & CULTURAL HISTORY OF ANDHRA are worth to study from starting point of preperation. And pls suggest the E.M book for paper – III ” Andhra Economy ”
Please suggest… .
Thanks & Regards,
Sajid
Hi sajid,
Since you had problem with TM, Vijetha competition or Tata McGrawhill (For G-1 prelims) books are fine as they act as guides, but it would be nice if you read the school level books for conceptual understanding.SOCIAL & CULTURAL HISTORY OF ANDHRA is definitely a good point to start as you need to memorize quite a number of names!. Regarding AP economy i would suggest you to go for vijetha EM material and supplement that with current affairs and data from Socio economic Survey and http://www.apdes.ap.gov.in/ Previous papers are available from following link
http://www.sakshieducation.com/%28S%282vmjw2450sdmxi55vdzvfx55%29%29/GroupII/Index.aspx . See left side bottom for previous papers. You will also get previous papers from bookshops but i doubt as most of them are in TM only.
Hi Dilip,
Thank you so much for providing the useful information..Thanks alot .
Regards
Sajid
dilip do you have ap socio economic survey 2011-2012 report any links plz update
Hi ramesh,
Socio economic survey is released just before budget. So you will get 2011-12 only after the budget.
Hello sir
Thank you so much for ur information.Actually i am in very confusion about books which are preferable for group 2 before reading this one.And i have small doubt for current affairs Pratyogita darpan monthly magazine is enough .
Hi Ragini,
Don’t waste your time reading pratyogita darpan!, It is very exhaustive and not required for G-1/G-2 level.
There are number of ways to prepare current affairs
1) Buy Vivek(RC Reddy publication)/Vijetha competition fortnightly and cover the current affairs. Both are in TM.
2) Read Sakshi newspaper http://epaper.sakshi.com Bhavitha(Thursday edition)or everyday “Vidya” in district edition for summary of weekly current affairs.
3) Follow http://www.sakshieducation.com/%28S%28hyw3uj45fvhveb45muxcpo55%29%29/GroupII/Index.aspx for good archive of current affairs.
Any of the above methods are good for current affairs.
hi dilip sir plz how to perpare group2 syallbus……plz give me instructions…according the timings and subjects i have to study . ……bcoz am writeing this exam 1st time. that y totaly am confusing
Hi Niranjan,
G-II preparation follow https://dilipvaka.wordpress.com/2011/09/09/how-to-prepare-for-group-ii%C2%A0exam/
For a brief study plan follow https://dilipvaka.wordpress.com/2011/09/02/group-ii-study-plan/
Read the syllabus completely before planning your preparation
hai dilip
sir could u give me suggestions when reading polity,i mean how to read and how to rember thos lot of things.
Hi Bujji,
While reading polity you need to know the sequence and importance of events. You must remember dates in particular those events happened after 1857 revolt. For Polity Laxmikanth is a standard book which contains all the material required for G-1/G-2.
Hi dilip,
Please clarify me regarding prelims. does all topics of mains need to be covred to prelims.I have purchased rc reddy material for group-I, is this material is also sufficient for group-II preparation.
Thanks alot
Hi madhuri,
The G-1 prelims broadly should cover the topics mentioned in this post https://dilipvaka.wordpress.com/2011/11/28/group-i-prelims-syllabus/ .G-1 mains is different as it is paper wise preparation and you should prepare your own notes taking some help from mains coaching material and reference books.RC reddy material is good for G-1 prelims but you need to prepare current affairs on your own, for G-2 buy additional Indian & AP economy material (paper -3).
please send me previous papers of group-2.
Hi ramya,
Go to http://www.sakshieducation.com/%28S%28hyw3uj45fvhveb45muxcpo55%29%29/GroupII/Index.aspx and see the previous papers on bottom left side.
thanks.please tell me about group-2: paper-1 how to prepare mental ability.
Hi Ramya,
The topics to be covered in G-II paper 1 are broadly outlined in this post https://dilipvaka.wordpress.com/2011/11/28/group-i-prelims-syllabus/ including mental ability
hii sir .i’m glad to c such a response pateintly to all the users.I had completed my MCA.But I’m intersted in writing Group exams. But I haven’t started my prepararion yet.I;m totally confused. How many days preparatuion is required for getting tru prelims of group2.Above u have mentioned many buks. Can give exactly wat buks are gud to read for english medium to get thru the prelims .Is it the right time to start my preparation or should i drop this time? For which jobs I should actualy apply in group2?PLEASE HELP ME OUT…..SORRY FOR ASKING MANY STUPID QUESTIONS….BUT I ‘M IN NEED OF ALL THOSE ANSWERS….
THANK U
LAKSHMI REDDY
Hi lakshmi reddy,
G-2 notification is available on the homepage of this blog.An overview of preparation is mentioned in this post https://dilipvaka.wordpress.com/2011/09/09/how-to-prepare-for-group-ii%c2%a0exam/ and a brief study plan here https://dilipvaka.wordpress.com/2011/09/02/group-ii-study-plan/ .There is prelims only for G-1, there is no prelims for G-2.There are 3 papers in G-2 and the syllabus is available in notification.Broad topics to be covered in G-II paper 1 is available here https://dilipvaka.wordpress.com/2011/11/28/group-i-prelims-syllabus/ .You can apply to every job in the notification, first preference for exec and then for non exec. All the books mentioned are must for preparation.First read the notification clearly to get a clear understanding and refer to others queries as well to clear most your doubts. You can also get good information and guidance from http://www.sakshieducation.com/%28S%28hyw3uj45fvhveb45muxcpo55%29%29/GroupII/Index.aspx
Hi Mr Dilip, i’m a doctor by profession. but i am very much interested in groups. My age is 35 and i want to write group 2 exams. i am totally new to this subject and dont know whether i can give my 100% effort to it due to family compulsions. but i decided to do it for my father as it was his dream. Kindly help me out in suggesting me how to start and from where to start studying. i have gone through all the information in your website but the syllabus is so new and scaring to me. i cant go to any training institutions also as i am already working. kindly suggest me the best and easy way of approach for preparation at home.
– Dr Sreelatha
Hi Dr. Sreelatha,
G-2 exam date is July 15, so you got 4 months to prepare. You do preparation for 2.5 months first revision 1 month and second revision 15 days. Before that you need to get some inspiration from your college years as you need to commit 4 to 5 hrs everyday during preparation. Morning 6 Am -8Am and evening 8 -11 pm or anytime you can take out from your schedule is necessary during preparation to get the confidence for the exam.
Your concern regarding syllabus is nothing!. 80% of the syllabus is from 6-10th class school text books. The only topics you might not come across is paper-2 and paper-3 which again is easy to cover if you got the basics. The topics and books to be covered are mentioned here https://dilipvaka.wordpress.com/2011/09/09/how-to-prepare-for-group-ii%c2%a0exam/ and paper-1 syllabus is here https://dilipvaka.wordpress.com/2011/11/28/group-i-prelims-syllabus/ . There is another short cut if you can’t read all the books mentioned in above posts.Get good material from bookshops around coaching centres in ashoknagar Hyd, i suggest you to go bookshop (Vikas book shop) around RC Reddy study circle and get material for all the 3 papers(general science, Indian history, ap history, Indian economy, ap economy preferably rc reddy one).I found Telugu medium material more comprehensive and it doesn’t make any difference to your preparation as the exam is objective one.But the most important of all of them is current affairs
Current affairs shouldn’t be postponed to read at one go in the last month!.Current affairs is a continuous process which you need to spare one hour daily, then only you can remember them as you follow the events as they were happening.
There are number of best and simple ways to prepare current affairs
1) Buy Vivek(RC Reddy publication)/Vijetha competition fortnightly and cover the current affairs. Both are in TM.
2) Read Sakshi newspaper http://epaper.sakshi.com Bhavitha(Thursday edition)or everyday “Vidya” in district edition for summary of weekly current affairs.
3)Read the 2011 current affairs from http://www.sakshieducation.com/%28S%28hyw3uj45fvhveb45muxcpo55%29%29/GroupII/Index.aspx
There is no difference whether you prepare current affairs in TM or EM for exam.Prepare current affairs for the year 2011 and upto 20 days before exam.
Thank u so much for your detailed and useful suggestion. Basically i studied in English medium since childhood. i am not comfortable at all with Telugu language. You suggested that Telugu medium material will be relatively much better. But i am very poor in understanding and remembering pure Telugu. Kindly suggest english medium study material and current affairs.
Hi Dr Sreelatha,
If you can read any Telugu Newspaper you can follow TM !.It has been my observation those who made it to G-1/G-2 are good at both media atleast to understand subject. Those who can’t understand Telugu medium at all take time to prepare notes by reading all reference books.Since you don’t have lot of time on your side you can follow this approach.
Get TM material as mentioned and use it as a guide for your preparation.Read the EM reference books mentioned in the posts according to the topics mentioned in the TM material to ensure you are in right path covering all aspects.Interestingly TM material was written in a way to understand even EM students giving the concerned EM terms wherever necessary.EM students face hurdle when they find telugu terms in science like diffraction, interference, convex lens and economy like fiscal deficit, median income etc.I heard there is even EM material available now as more EM students are appearing for G-2 this year, you can find them only if you visit the bookshop and take your time to refer the books over there.
For current affairs depending on single EM material is futile, as it is a continuous process and require regular follow up.Please read the Current affairs EM material and previous papers available here http://www.sakshieducation.com/%28S%28yai5rsibyucdr555bbi5woa0%29%29/GroupII/Index.aspx
Hello Mr. Dilip, I am reading Vijetha competitions – General studies. is it ok? as i have got very less time and have started only a week back, i’m too much worried that whether i can complete the syllabus atleast once. i have got one more doubt. Can i apply to more than 2-3 posts whether executive or non executive? If so, what is the procedure for applying both executive and nonexecutive posts. I mean, i need to apply separately or a single application will do? I belong to OC and my zone is 2. What are my chances and what according to you will be the cut off marks for achieving both executive and nonexecutive posts individually. Also help me in suggesting the easy way to remember the subject as it is very volatile. kindly reply .
Hi Dr Sreelatha,
If you are short of time, it is ok to go with guide like vijetha or Tata Mc graw hill GS book. You can well complete it in time (3 months) at least once. You must apply to all posts and the application procedure is entirely online with scanned photo as mentioned in notification. You need to mention preference order for all posts, first preferences are for executive and then non exec.Cut off marks varies each year depending on standard of exam and this year to get an interview for exec jobs, an OC need around 310 marks out of 450.One should target for 120 in each paper to get an assurance as there is no mention of interview this time.Only written marks are used for selection of exec jobs and non exec jobs.
The only shortcut for remembering is repetition.Don’t expect to get hold of subject in one go,repeat whatever you studied once a week for first 3 months. Then you can repeat more as exam date approaches and don’t forget to read newspaper daily for 30 minutes (No politics please!).
dilip sir,
which institutes provide coaching for group 2 (english medium)
Hi mahesh,
G-2 coaching is mostly in TM as they appear more in number, but it is possible to be available in EM this year as large number of students from EM are also appearing.Go and enquire in RC reddy study circle, lakshya study circle both in Ashoknagar Hyderabad.
sir,
iam reading tatamcgrahill( General studies) for paper-1, raghunatha rao and laxmikanth for paper-2, dutt and puri for indian economy ,,,can u give reference book for AP ECONOMY in English Meduim…..along with these excluding current affairs( i’m referring newspapers), you said socio economic survey, budget, and indian year book…? are these surveys important because everything is in ratios or numbers and hard to remember…and tell me how to read surveys and from where ? …….sorry to ask may questions… plz reply as soon as possible
——– anil reddy
Hi Anil,
There is no single reference book in EM for AP economy. The only TM book from which the questions are being asked is in TM, and it is Andhra pradesh ardhika vyavastha- Abivriddhi( ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ ఆర్ధిక వ్యవస్త- అభివ్రిద్ధి) –Telugu academy competitive exam book.
Read the above book following the syllabus and in fact it is very easy to follow TM than we think of!!.Regarding Socio economic survey again the data in them is read only for the topics mentioned in syllabus like contribution of agri, industry, services to income and employment, poverty rate in AP, industrial policy, agriculture finance, PDS in AP which you can know when you read the above TM book.
Hi Sir ,
In NCERT social studies books , there are no. of text books like , HIstory -Our Past , The earth Our Habitat , Social and Political life etc… …………….for each class . Texts books are adding as we extend to next classes .Please guide me which book i have to read for social science
Hi praveen,
NCERT books are very comprehensive at each level and skip only those books related to world history, everything else is relevant for Groups aspirants in form of polity/geography/indian history/environment.If you can’t read all the books at least read the summary at the end of every chapter.Another good approach is to read the state syllabus 6-10th class social studies books.
Hi Mr Dilip,
I am Ramu,My did MCA.Right now i am doing job.But my goal is Groups.Presently i like to prepare GroupII.So that i went to your referred books and solution to prepare self. And i am preparing polity (Mr Lakshmaia) book.
Here my doubt is to get RC Reddy material,do we need to get each subject(GS,history, polity and economy) with any specified author or faculty.
Else just we need to go and ask for RC reddy material for GroupII.
If there is any particular prescribed for each subject can you the list of thier names.
Hi ramu,
Rc reddy material is good for all subjects. If you want to evaluate before buying any material read the syllabus thoroughly so that you will clearly know what you want. There are other lecture notes which are good as well, depending whether you are TM/EM.Go through all the books in bookshop to get an idea.
hello sir my name is mahesh and i have completed b-tech last year in supplementary exams not in regular exam and i am willing to write Group 2 for the executive post.Am i eligible to write the exam or not if eligible please tell me

Reg lakshmikanth book :Indian polity for civil services by lakshmi kanth.
is the same book which u have referred???
or any separete book for groups aspirants is there?
may i know the publishers of that book
Thanks in advance
Regards,
Naveen B.
Hi Naveen,
NCERT political science books are excellent to grasp the concepts of polity, Class XI is more relevant than XII, but class XII is also good if you got time on your side. There is only one Laxmikanth book(Tata-McgrawHill publications), the one you mentioned!.You can see the book here also http://www.flipkart.com/indian-polity-civil-services-examinations-0070153167/p/itmczynppvjwbt77
Thanks a lot dileep. Really u r doing fabulous job here.
Regards,
Naveen B

Hi Naveen,
Regarding scope of jobs you mentioned
1)ACTO : This is a good job with scope to grow in commercial taxes dept of govt. The person is responsible to ensure all the taxes from commercial establishments like sales tax, vat and other taxes are collected to state govt.
2) EO : Eexecutive officers in endowment dept are responsible to look after the affairs of assigned temples like protecting temple lands, managing temple business affairs. You love it if you are devotional inclined and normally for G-II the assigned will be small ones. For Big temples like vijayawada, annavaram, srisailam G-I officers are appointed..for Tirpathi IAS officers.
3),4) Both these section officer posts look after the affairs of particular dept in secretariat (Administration building in Hyd) and is purely a back office job..It is non executive and you will live for all your life in Hyderabad!.
Regarding your situation, I do firmly believe today Software became a commodity and it will be bought wherever it is cheaper!.
Your salary in bangalore is OK for a small family, but you spend your life paying rents/house loans/car loans/petrol and the usual small entertainment. You are made to believe that you must take apt loan and car loan to show your status and you end up servicing debt. The underlying assumption is your salary grows and you can comfortably service any debt you took now.But software salary doesn’t grow anymore in India compare to debt servicing rate!.If you are young (<30) take every opportunity
to shift to govt services prefarably officer side like G-1, G-2 exec jobs, UPSC civils, Bank PO.Why you should move officer side, because they have great lobbying capacity among govt administration to increase their salaries, perks in accordance with the changing times.
One more important thing about G-2 jobs is your lifestyle aspirations. You will mostly stay in towns/mandal headquarters and occasionally in cities if you got posted there. If you are used to city life, then it will be a big change. You can also grow within govt services by writing departmental tests wherever possible.Pay scale 14860 means, it is the basic salary and DA,housing, conveyance and other allowances are added on top of that basic which comes between 20-25 thousand. This may be 1/3rd of your existing salary, but there will be social recognition if you are aspiring for it!.
hi sir, i am siri.
i am started my group 2 preparation from just 15 days back . bcoz i have 2 months baby that is the reason for the delay of my preparation . now i started my preparation with my moms help. i was spend exactly 9 hours per a day for preparation. i dont have any chance to increase my time for study and go for coaching. sir tell me ur views that i have any chances to win with my present situation.
I am continuously follows your site dilipvaka its give me the hope that i can gather good meterial for group 2 whithout going coaching. i am a TM candidate suggest me good meterial for all( paper 1,2,3) group 2 syllubus. presently i follows rc reddy meterial i think it is not enough .
Thanking you Sir.
Hi Siri,
Your effort is really good and Rc Reddy material is good for all papers and it is very much enough. If you have time read Telugu academy school books science, social (6-10th class) atleast “Summary” at the end of every chapter. For current affairs follow Sakshi education http://www.sakshieducation.com/%28S%28xkdegm451d4tq5u2iexbin55%29%29/GroupII/Index.aspx
for year 2011 and up to 20 days before exam. Also see the previous papers there to get an idea of exam level. You can also read ‘vijetha competitions” magazine to cover the current affairs and all these are in TM.
9 hrs of preparation everyday is good if you can maintain such concentration all the time.Ty to finish reading entire syllabus in 2 months for first reading and then do second revision in next 20 days, and a final revision in a week.So you will be ready for exam with confidence.
Hi Dileep,
I don’t Know how u have got that much patience to read un known person problems and giving answers to those as if u r close friend is asking. I am really inspired by u r way of response.
Really u r giving very valuable suggestion to so many, i read most of the posts in this blog.
The way u r suggesting he aspirants don’t leave u r current job for groups is really good.
I am 27 yrs old OC candidate
I started preparation for civil in 2009 & again in 2011 but stopped on the grounds of belief that of it is very difficult to crack IAS/IPS/IPS/IRS.( General candidate) while doing IT job.Now i am left with only one attempt in civils 2012 civil only.
I had a thought towards PO also but ,removed on the grounds that it is as risky as IT job these days.bank managers need to stay beyond working hours & they have targets also (moreover salary also less).(i am taking the Govt PSU only in consideration).
I didi n’t thought of trying Groups since god knows when they will release notification & when they conduct exams.
but, recently i came to know that at the time of notification only they r giving exam dates. So, now i am inclined towards writing these jobs .but, had a so many doubts weather these jobs(group2) r better than my present job(IT)…that’s why i posted my previous post.
Meanwhile after reading u r posts i got clear picture of exam.
doubts Reg Dept tests:
can we move from ACTO -> CTO -> commissioner in less time by writing dept tests?
normally deputy tahsildar will become deputy collector at the end of his career. But, can we move to deputy collector by writing dept tests in less time say 7-10 years.
Similar question i n case group 2 EO in endowment can he become EO to big tepmples using dept tests.
Regards,
Naveen B.
Hi Naveen,
Every job in this world has its own pros and cons just like an IT job.’Job” by itself means working for someone and trading our life time with money and prestige. All the general administration jobs in Govt at officer level are subject to intense political pressure, long working hrs coupled with accountability for your actions. So many IAS selected candidates never had the opportunity to become District collector if they don’t get political support!, they end all the time heading some departments and retiring as departmental secretaries.
Bank PO’s in govt PSUs are definitely better as there is huge growth opportunity for financial and banking services in India. You can also go for RBI assistant managers recruitment and not all banking jobs are target oriented. There are number of divisions in banking like Treasury, retail banking, corporate banking, Investment banking and PO s are generally exposed to these areas during training. They can join in any division they like, but as banks are in expansion mode there are more openings in Retail/corporate banking and you get the impression as target oriented jobs!.Banks core business is to get interest by lending to credible borrowers, and your job is never in danger as you don’t need to update knowledge continuously like in IT.Moreover banks got strong officer unions to get well paid!.
Regarding moving for ACTO->CTO for an OC it is definitely a long affair, as vacancies at CTO level are general filled through dept promotions from reserved category or through direct recruitment Like G-1.Any general openings will have lot of political lobbying from fellow OC and reserved candidates! Why political lobbying? because these jobs command lot of influence on business community as they are responsible for collecting sales tax to Govt and huge scope for shady action!.You can see ACTO in action at any interstate/regional checkpost checking cargo vehicles for proper documents of sales/excise tax for goods.
It may not be possible for EO’s to move to bigger temples unless you got awarded certain cadre like G-1 which usually gets through certain years of experience only.
As you are 27 years old you got a couple of attempts at every exam we can think of other than groups. If nothing works out be happy with your existing job, but don’t waste your precious time until 30 and try for G-2 exec/G-1 to build the confidence to crack the exam.
