APPSC Group I and Group II Selection procedure changing ?

Reports are making rounds in media about the changes coming up in APPSC Group I and Group II in the upcoming notifications. These changes are aligning the Group exams in line with UPSC Civil services. These proposals are sent by APPSC for consideration to Govt. Proposed changes are

1) Introducing reservation in prelims while calling for Mains exam. This means the present practice of calling for mains from common merit list  of prelims is abandoned .

2) Reducing the number of aspirants from prelims to mains exam to 1:15 (15 candidates are called for mains for 1 vacancy). Presently aspirants from prelims are called in 1:50.

3) Introducing  a responsible authority to prepare and evaluate the examination papers.

Group II

1) Introducing Prelims(objective) and mains(4 papers; 3 objective+1 descriptive) in Group II like in Group I. Presently there is no prelims and candidates need to write 3 objective papers only.

2) Syllabus readjustment/change in Group II mains by adding more topics from Science and Environment aspects and adding a descriptive Essay paper to test candidate drafting abilities.

3) Introducing reservation in Prelims while calling for main examination.

4) Job aspirants are called in the ratio of 1:15 (15 candidates are allowed to write mains for each vacancy)

The above proposed changes are definitely going to increase the intensity of competition in groups. Interestingly there is no proposal for introduction of negative marking in prelims. Those in the Open Category (O.C) have double impact as their effective ratio is reduced to 1:7 with reservation in Prelims. As the number of candidates allowed for Mains are reduced to 1:15, administrative/financial burden on APPSC for conducting exams through exam center availability, invigilation staff, printing and evaluation are greatly reduced. This should help the Commission to conduct exams every year. These proposals are waiting for government approval.

Sir i stay in Medak and i have completed my schooling in Rangareddy and in the application also when it asked region i selected as Rangareddy, so in which locality i will be considered as a local candidate and rangareddy means Hyderabad or it is a seperate thing?

      • June 4, 2012 at 7:51 PM

        Hi Richards,
Rangareddy (Excluding City of Hyderabad) is in Zone-6, so you are in zone-6.When there are no City cadre posts ‘city of Hyderabad” residents are part of Zone-6.

    • June 4, 2012 at 7:46 PM

      Hi Richards,
Current syllabus is being used from last two notifications only. Final selection of 2008 finished in 2009 and 2010 in 2012 March.

Gud Aftrn Sir My name is Anusha . I have appeared forgroup2 2012 exam .Please tell me what is the min. qualifying marks for SC and i have scored 166 according to the key given in news papers without counting any wrong r starred answers.

    • July 24, 2012 at 8:56 PM

      Hi Anusha,
166 is definitely a low score and not possible for an SC-W to get a job.You can see the minimum required from the G-2 notification.

I saw in notification it is given as 130 is the min. qualifying marks.Plz tell me sir then how much i have to score and i have to loose my hopes for this time?

    • July 25, 2012 at 10:13 PM

      Hi Anusha,
Groups are competitive exams and the more you score you have better chances of service. You should score high among SC-Women/SC-Men to get a service in SC reserved category and now a days the competition is high that you need to score around 250 to get a good G-2 service. You should try next time with that score in mind.

In the wake of talk regarding “changes in UPSC pattern of Civil Services Mains” and “A Mega Notification with a large number of posts by APPSC in 2013”, gathering momentum, it leaves several aspirants of civil services on cross roads of deciding one and give it fullest.

The month of Notifications still being four months away(December), kindly provide us an approach (Books to be covered in specified time frame) that would put prepare us sufficiently for both exams till December and post December not to loose edge on Group-1.

Also, kindly let us know how GS coaching of Civils would help us in pursuit of Group-1

Anticipating a reply in the interest of several beginners,

    Thanking you,

    • August 24, 2012 at 8:47 PM

      Hi keshav,
Anticipating the future is the least one should concern when preparing for competitive exams. You are going to appear for civils and G-1 and the current pattern is not going to change drastically in both exams if any change occurs at all.Civils and G-1 are like marathon and decathlon events and require different strategies and one needs to be “Competent” enough to prepare for those exams.

Completion of single reading of your optionals and GS for civils/ mains papers of G-1 in 6-8 months is necessary by/before March to get the confidence to be competitive enough.3 months of prelims preparation should be enough for any exam Civils/G-1 if you are a follower of newspaper and a magazine like frontline. The gap between prelims and mains for any exam should be used for revision/multiple readings/writing practice of notes prepared during preparation.

Coaching is of individual choice and a lot of civils GS coaching may not be relevant to G-1 mains as G-1 paper-2,paper-3 have AP specific content.Evaluate the reasons and expectations for your GS coaching by following the last 10 year previous papers.
